Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you want to know about GoodWorks, our classes, our training, and how to get involved.
What is GoodWorks?
GoodWorks is a nonprofit on a mission to help everyday people "Be A Better Bystander." We teach CPR, first aid, AED use, bleeding control, and overdose response to youth and underserved communities across the DMV, so more lives are saved in those critical minutes before first responders arrive.
Is GoodWorks a nonprofit?
Yes. GoodWorks Program Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN is 92-0589657.
What programs do you run?
Our work falls into a few areas:
Community CPR and first aid classes, open to the public and taught by certified instructors. Be A Better Bystander workshops for youth groups, schools, and community organizations. First aid kit builds and giveaways, including distribution at National Night Out events across the DMV every year. First Aid Palooza, our annual flagship community event with free training, coaching, and community resources. Private training for nonprofits, companies, and private groups.
Where do you operate?
We serve the entire DMV. We can also travel beyond the DMV when accommodations allow, depending on staffing.
How much does private training cost for our organization?
$45 per person for nonprofits, $55 per person for companies and private groups. Sessions run about 3 hours, with a minimum of 12 people per session. That fee covers certification card distribution, with remaining funds supporting our nonprofit mission. All payments are processed through Givebutter.
What does the training cover? Will we be certified?
Training follows American Heart Association guidelines and covers adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, choking response, and first aid for medical, injury, and environmental emergencies. Participants receive certification cards valid for 2 years. Every session includes hands-on practice with real equipment and realistic scenarios.
Who teaches your classes?
Our instructors are certified by the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American Red Cross, and they're experienced at teaching everyday people. No medical background is needed to take a class.
Do you offer free classes?
Our public community classes are free to attend. We ask for a $10 seat reservation when you register, which is refunded to you when you show up. Private trainings for organizations are priced per person as listed above.
Can GoodWorks table or set up a booth at our event?
Yes. Tabling is a $350 flat rate for up to 4 hours. Share your event date, time, location, and expected attendance, and tell us whether you'd like a hands-on demo or an information table. We'll confirm within 3 business days.
Can our organization receive donated first aid kits?
We distribute first aid kits to schools and community organizations when supply allows. Tell us about your organization, your nonprofit status, and how many kits you need, and we'll see what we can do. Pickup can usually be arranged at one of our events.
How do I volunteer?
Sign up on our Volunteer page. Our volunteer coordinator will reach out within 2 business days to match you with upcoming events. No prior experience is needed, and we'll provide orientation before your first event. Spanish speakers, healthcare students, and certified instructors are especially welcome.
How can our company sponsor or partner with GoodWorks?
We partner with companies through tiered sponsorships that include logo placement, event presence, team training spots, and impact reporting. Tell us your organization name and what you're considering, and we'll set up a call to walk through the options.
What is First Aid Palooza?
First Aid Palooza is our annual flagship community event: free CPR training and coaching, scholarships, and community resources, all in one day. RSVP through our website and we'll send event details as the date approaches.
How do I donate?
Donations can be made through our Givebutter page. Every gift is tax-deductible and goes directly toward training, kits, and community programs.
